Barney Lankester-Owen

Barney is a BAFTA-nominated producer with a background making documentaries for the BBC, Channel 4, Discovery and Animal Planet. He now works in Rio de Janeiro where he has has directed and produced  a host of documentaries for BBC1, BBC Three, BBC4, Discovery, Sky One, Five, Dave, Watch, ABC America, Animal Planet, Channel 4, and TLC.

Barney Lankester-Owen directs documentaries and adverts. Educated at the University of Oxford and the Ecole Normale Superieure in Paris, he has directed, produced and researched many critically acclaimed documentaries including ‘Baby Bible Bashers’ (C4) ’419: The Internet Romance Scam’ (C4) ‘The Man Who Lives with Bears’ (five) and ‘An Idiot Abroad 2: Climb Mount Fuji’ with Karl Pilkington. He moved to Rio de Janeiro in 2012 with his wife and children and has filmed both sides of the tension between the rich and the poor in Brazil. His films for brands show the creativity of the Brazilian culture and his film about the protests shows just how frustrated ordinary people are.
