Filming in Atlanta, Georgia

Last month’s filming brought us to the American city of Atlanta, in Georgia. Apparently home of the Peach, which was actually the first thing I saw as we drove from the airport through town. It was just like you see in the films…a gigantic peach on a pole, raised high in the sky. Quite unmissable really.

As always when on work trips, you rarely get to see the city you visit, however we were lucky enough to get a glimpse of Atlanta’s architecturally diverse high rises as we drove up the I-85 North, which passes right through them, to get to our final filming destination of Château Élan.

So why were we in Atlanta and more specifically at Château Élan? Firstly, for those of you who don’t know, C.E. is what we would call in Europe, a ‘replica’ of a French Château, set on 3,500 acres of land, surrounded by the sweeping panorama of the north Georgia foothills; a winery, spa and golf resort.

Not a bad place to be at all, I can assure you! We were asked by one of our clients to produce a promotional video for their ‘2016 Strategy, Innovation and Leadership Program’  – essentially a 3 minute video of the two-day event capturing all the highlights, for the purpose of internal use. We have previously created a variety of content for this client both in Europe and in the US over the years. For this particular shoot we had a crew of three people; myself as Producer and two of our camera guys who live close to Atlanta. As we were filming all sorts of shots from inside the conference, outdoor settings and activities, interview sessions and evening karaoke fun, we came prepared with all our toys.

Mike had his trusty C100, Frank bought along a selection of his finest, his FS7, Sony A7 and his Ronin, which covered all our filming needs, and if that wasn’t enough It was only right our beloved DJI OSMO steadicam came along for the ride too! I have to say the osmo is by far my favourite gadget and worked really well for those outdoor shots of the Château and getting through the crowds for those action shots.

We filmed for three days at this beautiful location working to the programmed schedule for the event. When on location for these shoots we work long hours (don’t worry secretly we love it) and the bonus… well, we were able to savour some of the delicious wines from the vineyard as well as some of that southern soul food they’re famous for. Oh, and probably the biggest highlight for us was getting to listen to the very interesting and most inspirational, Gene Kranz.. Only the ex-NASA fight director and Mr Apollo 13 himself. I can assure you it was a wonderful moment for everyone involved.

All in all we had a fabulous time filming and I would definitely recommend a trip to this Château if you find yourself in Georgia sometime.

Here’s some of our #bts shots and video clips….
